2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata: Refined Fun
One of the best cars we have seen ever in a roadster form, the Mazda MX-5 Miata makes it way to 2016 with a new generation that offers a new style and performance. Even though the looks are different and the power numbers are a bit less, the Miata doesn’t disappoint at all when it hits the road. This is still the car that certainly gives you the most fun for your money with its dynamite driving engagement that is gained from the awesome handling and amazing on road features that continue to make this car one of the best we have ever seen.
When you want a two-seat driver focused sports car at an affordable price, the Miata is the right choice. This car gives you the feeling of being completely in tune with its awesome performance and features, which are simply perfect for anyone to enjoy. With the top down, the Miata simply can’t be beat. Certainly there are cars with more power, a more dynamic top down experience, but for the money and this class, the Miata takes the prize for its awesome ride and amazing performance on the road which will delight you every time to take it for a spin.
Let’s talk about this refinement. The exterior of the Miata looks like it has finally grown up. That’s not to say the previous models were bad, the Miata has been awesome for over 25 years, but the new look is more sophisticated and less cartoon-like to give a more adult feeling and feel less like the car was meant for a more playful crowd. Now even those who take their driving persona seriously can enjoy the looks and feeling that nearly appear to be a smaller version of the Jaguar F-Type.
Filling this gorgeous shell with features is what the Miata is all about. The Miata offers three different models and a variety of equipment to be enjoyed. This starts with the LED headlights, push button starting, air conditioning, power windows, a folding cloth top, a six-speaker audio system, Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port, cruise control and audio and cruise controls on the steering wheel. Moving up to the Club model adds the Mazda Connect infotainment system with a touch screen display and multifunction knob along with headrest speakers. The Grand Touring version adds the leather upholstery and the navigation system as standard fare.
There are only a few optional features since the car has so many standard offerings. One of which is the keyless entry which is an add-on for the manual transmission models . The Club model can be updated to have Brembo brakes and BBS dark alloy wheels along with some exterior stylings to the side sills and the rear bumper. That’s really all there is to the options as this beauty comes already packed full of great features to enjoy.
Two features that stand out on the Miata as ones that you will absolutely fall in love with are the new dimensions and weight and the extra recline of the seat. The Miata is already a small car but has now lost some weight with some dimensional changes and by putting the center of gravity closer to the center of the car. The seats do recline just a little more than before, making it easier for taller drivers to take advantage of the fun and enjoyment of driving the Mazda Miata.
Speaking of seat room, let’s see what we find when we step inside this awesome little roadster. The look is actually very similar to the Mazda3 with an upright infotainment screen in the dash. The materials are very soft and supple all over the vehicle, which as fantastic change from just a year ago. The design is built completely around the driver and what you will want and need on the car to have the most fun possible from behind the steering wheel. This means you have the controls right where you need them, within easy reach. The seating is comfortable even for taller drivers who enjoy the tilt steering wheel and seats to gain a bit more space than before. The convertible top lets you know you are in a roadster that wants to get going and finally the Miata shows up with a trunk that has enough space to allow for a decent amount of luggage to be carried along.
When you go shopping for your new Miata you will find there is only one engine offered. This has been a trend with some of these types of cars and helps to keep the price lower for you. The engine used is a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine that gives you 155 horsepower and 148 lb.-ft. of torque. This power is sent through the six-speed manual transmission or the six-speed automatic to give you a great ride and dynamic performance. The Miata does run on premium fuel and shows you a great fuel mileage of 27 city/34 hwy mpg for the manual and 27 city/36 hwy mpg for the automatic to make it last longer.
Another of the best features of this car is the price. The starting price is only $25,700 making it really affordable for all the performance gained. Moving up to the Club the starting price is $29,400 and the Brembo brake package can add another $3,400 to the price. The Grand Touring will start around $30,900 for the top of the line model. If you want the automatic the weight gain is severe but the price is only $1,000 more.
All of packaged together gives you a Mazda Miata that has the best driving balance on the road that isn’t a luxury sports car. This is a car that is still nimble and quick to give you the most fun you can have at this price from behind the wheel . The suspension is firm to grant you excellent hold on the road. When you buy your Miata, you will want to head out to the curviest road you can find in your area to see exactly what this beauty can do which will leave you with a huge smile on your face.
